Molly Reviews: The Mistletoe Effect by Cate Ashwood

Blurb:
Although Christmas is his favorite time of year, all is not merry and bright for Danny Ellis. After being laid off and facing eviction, he’s eager to make a fresh start. When a friend mentions an opportunity in Sin City, he packs up and heads west. Unfortunately, plans run awry when his truck breaks down a little more than halfway there and he’s stranded in the cold with no money, nowhere to stay, and no way to get to Vegas.

‘Tis the season, but not for Merrick Holland, who loves being a part of the community in the small town of Rowley Bridge. Christmas has been a little tainted since his father died three years ago, and when people start to deck the halls, he withdraws. When Merrick finds a man asleep inside his bakery one morning, rather than call the police, Merrick makes him a cup of coffee, and after hearing his story offers him a job and a place to stay.

The two men strike up an unlikely friendship, but with Christmas only three weeks away, could a little holiday magic bring them together?

Review:
This was such a sweet story. I adored Merrick and Danny together. The way they danced around each other at first but finally gave in to their feelings. They were so good for each other. There was so much emotion in the story as well.
Danny made my heart hurt right from the beginning. He was so down and struggling to survive. It was hard watching him have that tentative hope at first because he was afraid it would be taken from him and didn’t know how to react when it wasn’t. Watching his feelings for Merrick grow was adorable. he grew more confident as the story progressed and he seemed to grow with each passing day. By the end of the story you could tell his feelings for Merrick and being at Rowley Bridge healed many of the hurt places in his heart.
Merrick was hurt in his own way but getting to see his love of the holidays come alive was beautiful. He had such a sweet personality. His need to take care of Danny was such a great part of him. I really liked seeing Merrick’s feelings for Danny grow the longer they spent together.
Danny and Merrick are so good together. You can tell they’re going to make a relationship work long term and give every effort to stay together. I would love to see a sequel with these two so we can check up on them and see how they’re handling the future. See how Merrick handles Christmas from now on, how Danny is doing decorating and with his art. And so we can see them still happy together down the road.
