Review and Giveaway: Pale Light by L.J. Hamlin

Blurb:
Elijah and his father Joshua find a young werewolf, Jayden, when his entire pack and family were murdered. They take in and train Jayden to hunt the supernatural with them. Elijah has a secret; he’s fallen in love with Jayden, but he dares not tell a soul.

Elijah’s sometimes lover, Chogan, is working a case with them. Chogan’s unexpected attraction to Jayden forces Elijah to confront his feelings. What does it mean for the three men’s lives? And just what is lurking in the woods?

Review:
The story is an odd mix of established couple meets slow burn menage. I found the storyline with the strange killings and markings interesting. I wasn’t too surprised who the bad guy wound up being. However his reasons were different. I liked how it was explained, and how the magic and mystical elements were described. The relationship between Chogan, Jayden, and Elijah didn’t mesh well. WIth two sort of being together already, but not really. And then each having feelings for each other but unable to admit it. I just didn’t feel the emotions they claimed to have. I didn’t believe the three would work long term. The author creates very fascinating lore so I’m hoping they write more paranormal, or maybe even fantasy, in the future.

Excerpt:
Elijah steps towards him, crowding into Chogan’s space.

“I was just looking. No harm in looking. You can’t tell me you’ve never noticed he has a nice ass,” Chogan says, a hint of challenge in his voice. He knows damn well that Elijah has noticed how attractive Jayden is, and if he tries to claim differently, he’s a damn liar.

“I’ve noticed,” Elijah admits grudgingly, his face red.

“You want to know what I noticed?” Chogan asks.

“Other than Jayden’s ass?” Elijah says a little sourly.

“Yeah, other than that.” Chogan smiles.

“Okay, then.” Elijah nods.

“Your dad’s motel room isn’t next to ours,” Chogan says happily.

Elijah leans in close, his lips close to brushing against Chogan’s.

“Hoping to get in my pants?” Elijah asks.

“Kind of thinking you’re a sure thing.” Chogan smirks.

It looks like Elijah is about to kiss him when a door slams nearby, and Elijah glances off in the direction of the sound.

“Jayden,” Elijah says softly.
