When recent college graduate Nathan Harris makes a life-changing move out from under his mother’s thumb and into his own place, he is determined to take some risks. He is tired of not being good enough, tired of allowing his fears to control him.
What he thought would be an exciting adventure ends up being one jaw-dropping mishap of embarrassment after another, leaving him with a life he doesn’t even recognize anymore.
His once boring, lonely existence has been replaced by a brownstone filled with colorful friends, a rough around the edges, tattooed bad boy best friend, and a stripper for a boyfriend who’s not even sure he’s gay.
This is such a fun and sweet story. I laughed my way through some of the scenes. But you could also feel for the characters in the story. Nathan was so awkward but still has a heart of gold. David is so confused in the story until he realizes what he stands to lose. I enjoyed how much Jon takes Nathan under his wing and helps him come out of his shell. He does exactly what he told Brandon not to do, minus the “getting together” part. The story is short, yet keeps you entertained from beginning to end. I loved the laughs and I hope to see more from these characters in the future. I so want to see how Brandon and Josh got together because I bet that’s equal parts funny and sweet.
I asked Nathan to stop by today to talk to us about his fears a bit. He was so nice. And despite what he thinks, he didn’t over share at all! Read and enjoy!
“Tell us what your biggest fears are.”
Nathan looked across the table at Molly Lolly thinking there was not enough time in the day to explain all of his fears. Maybe if he just sat there awkwardly staring at her she would go away.
“How about your top three fears Nathan? What are those?” She asked, leaning forward into the table separating them.
Nathan adjusted the collar of his shirt, trying to slow his breathing. “Um, what you’re doing now is at least in the top five,” He said, attempting to lighten the mood, but failing miserably.
“Are you afraid of crowds? Enochlophobia?” Molly Lolly made some notes on her pad as she talked.
“In a way,” Nathan said, adjusting his glasses. “ It’s more like, I’m fine until something off happens, like at the movies if someone gets up to use the restroom in the row in front of me, and it takes them too long to return, I automatically assume they left a bomb under the seat and I’m about to die. Kind of ruins the movie. So I just quit going.”
Molly Lolly looked like she was going to say something, at the same time Nathan unintentionally cut her off. “And I don’t take elevators, or medications that have any side effects because I know I would get all of them, and I can’t get on airplanes, or eat hamburger meat and I’m pretty sure I can never have kids because I’m sure someone would try to steal them.”
“Well okay then, I think that’s enough for this interview, ” Molly Lolly said closing her pad of paper and standing up from the table.
“Well, thanks for the interview.” Nathan let his voice fade off, knowing he had shared too much of his crazy.
Ding…. He heard his phone go off again as he was grabbing an orange from the fridge. Nathan set the orange on the counter and pulled his phone out of his pocket.
Maybe I’m jumping the gun here. What are you into?
Nathan wasn’t quite sure how to answer that. He leaned back against the kitchen counter and stared at the keypad for a second before responding. Guys?
Ding…. I’m literally shaking my head at you right now….
Ding…. Josh instantly followed up his last text. I meant what turns you on about a guy. Eyes? A nice ass? I need to know what I’m working with here.
Nathan felt like the entire world could see his words as he typed his response. I think men’s feet are sexy.
Ding… Josh responded, apparently not fazed at all by Nathan’s answer. All right then, let’s start at the toes and work our way up.
I write painfully awkward, usually embarrassing, romance because long confident gazes followed by sexy dancing never happens to me.
I am a native of the Pacific Northwest, and will probably never leave since I’m a hypochondriac sundae, with claustrophobic sprinkles, and a cherry of anxiety on top. I read and write to relax my mind and I love getting lost in someone else’s story, even if it is only for a little while.
