Review, Guest Post and Giveaway: Bowl Full Of Cherries By Raine O’Tierney

Porker, Fatty, Tons-of-Fun: Crowley Fredericks has heard it all. He’s dropped a lot of weight since his high school days, but he’s still a big guy, and the painful words and bullying follow him. Rejected—again—because of his size, Crowley is starting to think that maybe love just isn’t meant for huskier men.

Averell Lang and his twin are so different they might as well not even be related. So when Rell’s brother brings his roommate home to snowy Susset for the holidays, Rell expects the worst—another uptight, pretentious hipster. What he discovers instead is Crowley. Nerdy, fascinating, attractive, Crowley. Rell never expected to look at a man this way, and what he sees in Crowley Fredericks is something he didn’t even know he was looking for. If both men can overcome their hang-ups, they might unwrap more than presents this holiday season.

Oh my gosh y’all. This book is amazing. Crowley is such an amazing man. His heart is so big and he is just beautiful inside and out. The scene where he first meets Averell is adorable. We all get that fluttery nervous feeling when we meet someone that we feel that instant attraction to. I thought it was unfair that Rell was called lazy and unmotivated by his family the whole time. I didn’t see him that way. I just thought he hadn’t found his passion yet. The line where Rell tells Crowley how gorgeous he is. I teared up big time because it was so beautiful. Rell’s nickname for Crowley, Owl and Owley, yup, adorable. The epilogue with David and Tyler was SO FUNNY! I have to have their story. I can’t wait to read that one next year.

Guest Post:
Since Raine also has a review blog that focuses on hats (which is way awesome and you should check out if you haven’t already), I wanted her to talk to us about hats. I specifically asked for the top five favorite hats she has owned or wants to own. I gotta say her list is pretty awesome. Read and enjoy!

  1. PURPLE VELVET BERET: The one came from the renaissance festival and was my father’s before I “inherited” it. (He’s still alive, so no tears.) Every time I wear it, I’m reminded of good times with my dad, plus it makes me look like a fancy artist.
  1. M*A*S*H CAP: Anyone who supports the good ol’ 4077th needs a cap like this. Unfortunately the cap has been loved to death and brim is crumbling.
  1. BLACK FASCINATOR: I got this one as a ‘Just ‘cause’ present from my coworker. It’s got a veil that comes down in the front and I adore Reminds me of something you’d wear to a funeral, which sounds very morbid, but it’s a fashion I’ve been obsessed with since I was a kid.
  1. PARADE TINY HAT: This is one I made with my own hands for a library parade! It’s mounted on a hot-pink glitter headband, wrapped in iridescent cellophane, and has long silky ribbons and beads. It is reDONK. And that’s why I love it.
  1. WEDDING VEIL: Been married to my husband and M/M writing partner, Siôn O’Tierney for 12 years. We’re best friends and love each other deeply, so you might think that the veil made this list because it’s a symbol of our special day* and…nope. It’s just a KICK. ASS. VEIL! A circlet of flowers with beads woven in and long, delicate lace in two parts so that you can cover your face and look demure (or playfully wicked, whichever!)

*if you’re curious what WOULD represent our love and special day, it would be the PlayStation. His groom cake and the bond that has held us together all these years. 😉

BONUS: WANT TO OWN— Every single hat Kate Middleton owns. Every. Single. One. She is my hat hero.

Even through the snow, Rell didn’t feel the cold. His face burned with the excitement of escaping the Livery and absconding with his brother’s best friend. He clasped Crowley’s hand, pulling him through the street. They ran and skidded and laughed, moving farther and farther away from the club.

“It’s beautiful tonight,” Crowley breathed and Rell squeezed tighter. “Doesn’t it weird you out though?”

Rell knew what Crowley was asking—didn’t even pretend that he didn’t. Stopping, he tugged lightly so Crowley came stumbling up beside him. He twined his arms around Crowley’s waist and held him for a moment, right there in the middle of the sidewalk.

“Does it weird you out? I’m your best friend’s brother.”

“Not weirded out at all.” Crowley shook his head. His dark eyes shimmered with concern. “But for you… I mean, it was loud in there and hot and fun and there was alcohol and… sometimes… things just happen and—”

“Yeah, things happen,” Rell agreed. “Except I’ve been to a lot of stupid hipster clubs with a lot of Tyler’s friends and….” He leaned forward and kissed Crowley again, letting the experience linger, melting the chill between them. He tasted like nogtini. “And nothing like that has ever happened.”

“But… do you even like guys?”

“Owl. You’re a guy. I like you.”

“But have you been with a guy?”

“Why are you over-thinking this?” Rell asked, gently cupping the side of Crowley’s face.
